Bees, Wasps & Hornets (Control & Prevention in Metro Atlanta & North Georgia)
A wasp nest over the front door or a yellow jacket colony in the ground can turn everyday tasks (mowing, grilling, getting the mail) into a hazard, especially for anyone with sting allergies. Different stinging insects call for very different handling: yellow jackets defend ground nests aggressively, hornets build high, carpenter bees bore into decks and fascia boards, and honey bees deserve protection, not extermination.
Forsyth Exterminating identifies exactly what you're dealing with and resolves it safely. Nuisance wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are treated and removed; carpenter bee damage is addressed at the source; and when honey bees are involved, we handle them responsibly.
Signs You Have a Stinging Insect Problem
- Paper nests under eaves, decks, or playsets
- Steady insect traffic into a hole in the ground or wall void
- Round holes and sawdust under wooden rails (carpenter bees)
- Aggressive behavior when you approach an area of the yard
How We Solve It
Identify the insect
Wasp, hornet, yellow jacket, carpenter bee, or honey bee (identification determines the safe, correct response).
Safe removal
With professional equipment and protective gear, we treat and remove nests, including hard-to-reach and in-wall colonies.
Damage control
For carpenter bees, we treat galleries and advise on sealing and repainting to prevent re-boring.
Prevention
Ongoing service catches new nests while they're still the size of a golf ball.
Keep Them From Coming Back
- Seal wall and soffit gaps before spring nesting
- Paint or seal exposed wood to deter carpenter bees
- Keep trash and sweet drinks covered outdoors
- Check play equipment and railings early each season

Stinging Insects We Handle in North Georgia
Yellowjackets, wasps, hornets, and carpenter bees each nest and behave differently, so each needs a different approach. (Honey bees we relocate rather than exterminate whenever possible.)
Yellowjackets
Aggressive colonies that nest in the ground and in wall voids and peak in late summer. One disturbed nest can send dozens of stings, the most common sting-emergency call we get.
Paper Wasps
Build the familiar open, umbrella-shaped nests under eaves, soffits, and around doorways. Less aggressive than yellowjackets, but a hazard right where you walk.
Hornets
Bald-faced hornets build large, football-shaped aerial nests in trees and on structures and defend them fiercely. Never knock one down yourself.
Carpenter Bees
Bore round holes into fascia, decks, and railings to nest, causing cosmetic and structural damage over the years, and drawing woodpeckers that make it worse.
Bees, Wasps & Hornets FAQs
Do you exterminate honey bees?
We treat honey bees responsibly. They're vital pollinators. When bees have colonized a structure, we'll walk you through the right removal path rather than simply spraying the colony.
Why shouldn't I knock down a wasp nest myself?
Wasps and yellow jackets defend nests in force, and yellow jacket ground nests can hold thousands of insects. Professional treatment neutralizes the colony before removal, without the emergency-room risk.
Carpenter bees keep coming back to my deck. Why?
They return to old galleries year after year. Treating the tunnels and then sealing and painting the wood breaks the cycle.
Yellowjackets, wasps, or hornets. Does the difference matter?
Yes. Where the nest is and how the colony behaves change the safest way to treat it, so correct identification comes first, especially for ground yellowjackets and hidden void nests.
When are stinging insects most active?
Colonies are largest and most defensive from late summer into fall, which is when most stings and emergency calls happen. Early-season nests are smaller and easier to handle.
How do you treat a ground yellowjacket nest?
We locate the true entry (it can be several feet from where you see activity), treat the colony at the source, and confirm it’s out, not just knock down what’s visible.
